SHELTERS

BUTLER COUNTY ANIMAL Morgantown, KY

******************************************************

Butler County KY, is in desperate need of computer volunteer help, using the internet to find rescues for dogs in the shelter. The shelter is trying to become no-kill, but due to the rural area of the shelter and the poor economy around the country, it is becoming more difficult to find people to adopt and rescue.

This is in a very rural, sparsely populated area, where people see their pets as disposable.  People do not adopt - they dump their pets at the pounds, knowing they could be put down.

The director will gladly work with rescues and help can be found with transport.  The dogs are healthy and well cared for there.

If you can help, please contact the shelter ASAP!

Carrollton KY : URGENT --PLEA FOR HELP for Carroll Co Animals

**************************************************

This is the Carrolton KY shelter, I know Tammy has worked tirelessly for the animals in her county, please help her!

_____________

Well it took us 4 years to get a decent shelter built, but we did and it is  beautiful.  Now the county has lost their contract with KY Humane and have  nothing to do with the dogs.  We, Carroll Co Animal Support, presented a proposal 2 weeks ago to let us go in  and run the shelter.  Start an adoption program, which they do not do and be  there the hours that the law states, which they do not do and work with  rescues to try and save as many dogs as we can.  We have explained what it would  cost them, which is no more than what they have in the budget now.  We go back  this Tuesday night and see what the verdict is. As of now they will be euthanizing all dogs after a 5 day hold period, if the dog is a stray.

I am writing to ask for a rescue that could step us and help us on an  ongoing basis.

I am pretty much a one woman show as I am the only member that fosters or  has much of any hands on with the dogs and cats that we get. We are now a  501(c)3 so that helps. I don' t have many volunteers that can help me with adoption  events so we don' t have any plus we don' t really have a place that is good  for that type of an event. We don' t have a lot of money as it all goes to the  vet for the sick and injured. So we can' t get many of them altered so we basically look for rescues to help us out.

I am sure that if it does not go our way, I will be slammed with OS and
others. I can ' t handle very many as I already have 7 fosters in my boarding
kennel and 3 more in the house. I am currently working with a hoarder who is
willing to give me 6 or 7 dogs but I have no place to put them.

I am writing to ask for a rescue that could step us and help us on an
ongoing basis. I know that there are a few in the northeast that work with certain
shelters here in KY. That would be great but I know I will possibly need more
than that. I really don' t know where to turn because I am afraid I will have
to turn people down and their dogs will be pts by our county.

Any ideas would be great right now. I have spring break coming up and will
be full with boarders on top of the fosters that I already have. Some of which
have been here for over a year or more.

MERCER COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY: FOSTER HOMES NEEDED

**************************************************

I am begging you for your help. We desperately need people to foster short term AND long term (over a month). Sometimes, we need someone for just an overnight, or a couple nights or a week. We cannot continue helping the county animals in Mercer County without help fostering.

There was a sudden death in our city that left numerous dogs homeless. We are actively seeking fosters for these dogs, many are in rough shape. There are
small dogs, senior dogs & big dogs. There are at least 4 more out there, 1 more Pom & a Chi that will be out in the weather. We simply don't have the room
anywhere to put them. If you can help by fostering, rescuing or helping potty the ones in crates at our spay/neuter clinic, please let us know.

HARLAN COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER: VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

********************************************

Hi all,

I volunteer and provide transport for Harlan County animal shelter in  rural Kentucky. Basically, they are a high volume, high kill shelter,  very rescue friendly. We have brought some low cost spay/neuter to the  community, but there has been years of people not being able to afford  to fix their pets.

Virtually all cats and kittens get euthanized every week or 2 weeks. I  am able to provide transport (to the midwest) roughly every 2 weeks.
Our petfinder site typically is not updated because the turnover is so high, unfortunately. Is there anyone out there willing to help?

Woodford Humane Society

Volunteers have many different reasons for helping us in their spare time, from simply wanting contact with animals and meeting new people, to learning new skills before committing to a new career in animal welfare. Volunteer help is an invaluable commodity. We could never accomplish all that we do for our animals without our beloved volunteers.

If you would like to volunteer, there are many avenues to explore.  Whether you would like to work directly with the animals, or prefer to help in other ways, we have a spot for you. Here are some of the ways you can help:

  • Portable Adoption Days - setting up and breaking down cages, staffing the event, talking with potential adopters.
  • Socializing the animals - playing with them, bathing, cleaning ears, clipping nails, walking dogs
  • Help with cleaning - dishes, scooping out litter boxes, etc.
  • Join a committee.
  • Greet visitors to the Adoption Center and help them select a pet
  • Help with our Fundraising Events, including Freedom Fest 2008 at Darley's Gainsborough Farm.
  • Make Humane Education presentations
  • Take pet photos for us to post on our website
WHATEVER IT IS YOU LIKE TO DO, WE COULD USE YOU! Join our important family of volunteers. Whether it’s one day a year, a month, a week or a day, we need you to continue our hard work saving lives!
