ABOUT THIS SHELTER:
Mission Statement: Caring for the homeless animals of Leitchfield, KY; Finding the best homes/families possible for our cats and dogs; Reducing the homeless population by premoting spay/neuter in the community; and Educating the community about responsible pet care. While we do not have a specific kill date, when we are full, we have to euthanize. When we are not full, we do our best to love and care for each pet with all of our abilities. However, our work force is too small for the number of pets we currently care for. Our shelter is full and when we look at these trusting faces we know the end is near for many of them.
Adoption: If you're considering adding a cat or dog to your family, now's the time to come and select your new best friend. We have many sweet, friendly, healthy animals who deserve more than the life they've been dealt simply due to someone's irresponsibility. Please consider giving one of these precious animals a home and a second chance at a happy life. Out-of-state adoptions are allowed, but a home visit and references are required. Adoption fees: Cats and Kittens $55; Adult Dogs $85; Puppies $100. All animals adopted from us will be altered before placement and will receive their vaccinations and worming. The adoption fees only serve to cover such expenses. While the adoption fee for cats includes testing for FeLV/FIV, heartworm testing for dogs can be done for an additional expense. Rescue: If you can
help rescue even one of the Grayson dogs or cats, please contact us ASAP

Rescues that are new to working with us would
need to submit a list of their vet references, rescue references, an
outline of their adoption policies, and reason(s) why
they would ever euthanize a pet. Rescuing from

Involves making a donation in any amount to help cover the vetting needs of the shelter pet of your choice. If you would like to pay the full sponsorship fee for a cat or kitten, it costs $55, while adult dogs are $85, and puppies are $100. Sponsorships can also be
applied to our feral barn cat program. These feral cats - free roaming,
unowned, and untamed domestic cats - are fully-vetted and free to barn
owners who will agree to feed them.

additional foster homes to take
these deserving animals into their care while they wait to be adopted or

I'm about two or three they say,and I've been spayed and am all UTD on my shots.
I came in as a stray, but as you can see from my video, I'm much more
at home in a comfy, plush chair than on the streets. Right now, I'm
staying in a crate because the shelter is beyond full... I'm spending
far more time with the cats than my fellow canines. While shelter life
is never an ideal situation, I do like spending my days with the feline
contingent as an only dog. I strongly prefer that you love on me
exclusively (sans other canine competition for your love), pet me and

really; my people turned me in back in March of 2009. It's like this

Magic is a beautiful girl who weighs 44 lbs., about 17 to 18 inches high at the shoulder. She
has beautiful brindle markings and has a stub tail (not sure if it's
natural or docked). She has cattle dog features and is very sweet
and she and Moxie are very quiet (especially compared to some of the
others). She is very well mannered and behaved.

my name is Arabella, a grey and white girl kittycat (medium coat), one
year old in April 10. I was found by a good Samaritan, sick and alone.
After some days, they brought me to the shelter. They looked at me there
and shook their heads, as I was weak, listless, and not far from going
to the Rainbow Bridge. I went to stay with a foster mom, and she is
helping me get better, and making sure I take my medicine and getting
lots of good things to eat to make me strong and well. My
name means 'beautiful' and 'courageous' , and they think I'm both those
things. My foster mom gives me small meals and she is amazed at my

know the volunteers love me and they saved my life), and I'm not a feral

POSTED MONDAY AUGUST 30th: ALL THE ANIMALS BELOW WILL DIE THURSDAY UNLESS THEY HAVE A RESCUE OR ADOPTION COMMITMENT BY WEDNESDAY! THIS IS A SMALL RURAL HIGH KILL SHELTER THAT EUTHANIZES EVERY WEEK DUE TO OVERCROWDING! THOSE LABELED OWNER TURN INS CAN BE PTS AT ANY TIME!! The shelter takes in an average of 40 dogs and 9 cats/week. Only the most "adoptable" dogs and none of the cats are posted on the website. ABOUT THIS SHELTER:
Mission Statement: Estill County Animal Shelter is a County-operated shelter in rural Kentucky. Dogs are held 5-7 days before we euthanize. We hold as long as we possibly can. All owner turn -ins can be euthanzied when they are brought in but we try to give them that same chance at life as the stray. Because we are such high volume and serve 5 counties, we cannot hold a
dog very long for rescue. We will always try to do everything we can to
help out, but understand that we have a 25 kennel capacity, we always
have to make room for dogs coming into the shelter. Animals are euthanized EVERY week on Thursday morning at 5:00 am.
Adoption: Fee: $25. That includes a 7-way shot, license, and rabies (if old enough). Adoption fees can be made by credit card to our paypal account estillcoanimalshelter@yahoo.com but the fee is $28, to cover Paypal's fees. If you are interested in adopting a dog from the shelter, the $25 pull/adoption fee MUST be paid ($28 for paypal) and arrangements made for the dog to be OUT of the shelter before the dog is considered safe. ABOUT THIS SHELTER:
Mission Statement:
Anderson County and the City of Lawrenceburg fund animal shelter
services.The Shelter is staffed with an office manager and multiple
Animal Control Officers whose activities are overseen and directed by
the Anderson County Fiscal Court. Services: 1. Identification and return
of lost pets to their owners.2. Satellite Adoptions to surrounding
towns and communities as well as from the Adoption Center.3. Emergency
rescue and aid for injured animals. 4. Education in responsible pet
ownership and in the proper care and treatment of pets. 5. Spay/Neuter
programs to help reduce the suffering of unwanted animals. 6. Assisting
local animal control in investigating allegations and reports of cruelty
and neglect. 7. Aiding Animal Control in enforcement of county and
state animal control ordinances. 8. Euthanasia program for
terminally ill and injured animals, and for pets whom we cannot find a
suitable home for adoption. At any
given time, we could be full at the shelter and have to euthanize due to
lack of space.

Potential adopters must be
prepared to drive to Lawrenceburg, if necessary. Adoption Fees: Dog--$85; Cats--$65

Rescue:
Rescue Friendly. We work with various rescue
organizations who pull our pets into their rescues if they fit their
protocol. Some are local, some are regional, and some are even out of
the state. Usually for long distance transports, a Humane Society
volunteer will take the animal a short distance (usually within an
hour's drive), then they will meet up with someone from that area who
will drive another "leg" of the trip, where they will meet up with
someone else who drives another "leg", and so on.

Foster:
Many times, animals come to us
ready to give birth. We would rather they be able to do this in a warm,
loving home environment rather than in a kennel. Foster homes are a
great way for us to make sure our mommies are at their best when their
babies arrive. There are also times when a pet is injured when it
arrives at the shelter, and needs some healing time and a foster home is
the perfect solution. A foster home also benefits an animal because
they can be housetrained and socialized in a home situation, which will
make them more adoptable, and also eases the overcrowding that we
sometimes face. Foster parents are a
great asset to the Humane Society and undoubtedly saves lives. Click

Sponsor: Each "Gift of Life" sponsorship goes directly
to helping an animal in need.
Your sponsorship amount will be credited to the animal's adoption fee,
lowering the adoption cost and hopefully allowing it to get adopted much
sooner.
Spay/Neuter: The Anderson Humane
Society is proud to announce that we have recently received a
spay/neuter grant from the state and would like to offer discounted spay/neuter vouchers to
those in our community who have pets that have not been “fixed”. This
program is open to Anderson County residents only, and is limited to two
vouchers per household per month. There will be a small co-pay
for each pet, depending on species, gender, and size. Co-pays range from

of one of our humane society members in the fall of 2007, and she was
just a few months old at that time. Lora was hoping to keep her only

ABOUT THIS SHELTER:
Mission Statement: We are an open admissions animal shelter for Shelby County. We are governed by the Shelby County Fiscal Court and operated by Shelby County tax dollars. We except all unwanted and stray animals in our county. We also perform all neglect and abuse investigations for Shelby County. We try hard to ensure the animals adopted from our shelter are healthy and free of undesirable temperaments. We aggressively pursue solid adoptions and work with rescue groups, both purebred groups and generic. "NO KILL MISSION OF SHELBY COUNTY." We are working towards making Shelby County a no-kill county. In order to achieve this goal, Shelby County Humane Society is working with Shelby County Animal Shelter. The first step to achieving our no-kill goal is to have all animals at Shelby County Animal Shelter vetted and spayed/neutered. By doing this, the chances of adoptions and rescues increase significantly. This also will prevent accidental or unwanted litters of animals in the future.

Spay/Neuter: Thanks to the help of many different groups but none more then the Shelby County No Kill Mission, we are now holding our very own in house spay and neuter clinics. We are doing this to ensure that all of the animals adopted from our shelter are spayed/neutered prior to going home. We feel this is going to have a great impact on the overpopulation problem we face. Donations are needed to keep this clinic going. is a beautiful 4 year old tri colored male German Shepherd Mix. He gets
along with cats and other dogs. His owner turned him in because he was
too large to be an inside dog. He is also reported to have had some
obedience training. Keon is a big boy and what you would call a gentle giant! Wow, he's the sweetest thing! He loves to be touched and loved.
He is a leaner, very sweet! You can see his ribs, he's pretty thin for
his size. Poor boy needs to put on some weight. If you like large dogs,
you will love him. This big boy is very calm and sweet, he shouldn't
have any problems at ALL in a house! He sits on command and is just an

Malachi Russian Blue Small Adult Male PLEASE HELP!
This beautiful young Russian blue boy was
brought to the shelter unable to walk and with an obvious broken leg.
Despite the severity of the injury and the pain that this boy must have
been in, he couldn't stop purring and attempting to head butt. We named this sweet boy Malachi which means
messenger and Malachi is truly a messenger for the No Kill Mission!
Malachi's injuries weren't life-threatening or deserving of euthanasia
and thankfully, he came to a shelter that endorses the No Kill
philosophy. He was able to receive medical attention and Xrays. Malachi
was diagnosed with a broken pelvis and a broken femur. Both
should heal with cage rest, pain medications, good nutrition and plenty
of TLC. Surgery to remove a piece of the broken boy may be needed but
more xrays will be needed in a month. Thankfully funds were available in
the No-Kill Mission account to cover Malachi's initial xrays and
medications...unfortunately the funds are extremely low and future care
may not be possible. Please consider making a donation so ALL injured
animals of Shelby County will have the chance to receive the medical

Tulip Tabby, Torbie Small Baby Female UPDATE.
While
waiting for her forever home, Tulip developed pneumonia and was given
less than a 30% chance of living through the night. She was placed with a
special needs foster. Tulip received 3 antibiotics, IV fluids,
breathing treatments, and force feedings. Tulip nor her foster mom gave
up. After one month of intensive care, Tulip was staring to thrive and
play. Her foster mom noted a cough when she played hard. An xray was
done which revealed part of her left lung was not inflated. She was
started on another month of antibiotics. On 12/23, Tulip was cough free,
gaining weight and very playful. Another xray was taken & revealed
that she only has a small portion of her left lung that is "working". Tulip
would love (and more than deserves!) a forever home! Due to her lung
"condition" - Tulip can NOT be put under anesthesia for declawing or
elective procedures. Tulip plays well with others and loves ALL

POSTED MONDY AUGUST 16th: Times getting tough-no space left in Shelter - Two puppies are kenneled in the office, no empty kennels, few responses on any dogs. We have had only 1 adoption (Cherokee) in 2 weeks. Once again, the dogs keep coming in and little is going out. Please help in any way you are able.

ABOUT THIS SHELTER:
Mission Statement: The county has constructed a small shelter and it is being operated by Owen County Friends of Animals (OCFA), an independent non-profit volunteer group. We are not affiliated with the animal control department or polices in Owen County. We work diligently to save as many dogs from an untimely death as we possibly can. Very rural, but the dogs are lovely and healthy.
Adoption: We DO ADOPT OUT OF STATE. Adoption Fees: $85 for females and males. This fee covers spay/neuter, rabies vaccination and 1st round of basic vaccinations. We have a contract for adopters to sign that assures us the animal will be used as a companion animal and returned to us if no longer wanted.
Rescue: Rescue friendly and generally do not charge a pull fee.

Happy -This senior guy is a terrier mix. He is chunky and weighs about 35. He appears to have been someone's lap dog. He
was abandoned when his owners moved from a local trailer park. Happy is
13+years old. He has terrible teeth and suffers from occasional

spent approximately 2 months at the Owen co shelter before she went to a
foster home. She is wonderfully affectionate and would love to be in a
one dog household She is like a large 65 pound puppy. She has been fixed
and is utd on her shots. She is blind in her left eye. She also has an
old injury to her left front ankle. It is healed but she carries a large
knot over the ankle and it appears as though arthritis is setting in as

NEEDS NEW FOSTER HOME/ADOPTION/RESCUE ASAP! Olive is a Basset/Beagle mix. She is extremely loving, and loves attention; but she needs a home with NO cats. Her front legs are deformed and she becomes extremely agitated if you try to clip her nails or touch her feet. She has no mobility problems from the deformation. She is very fast and can easily jump to heights of 2-3 feet. She is house-trained, fixed and UTD on her shots. Glippey and pups Terrier Small Adult Female ADOPTED!
Glippey looks to be 2-4 yrs old, her pups look like they have cattle dog in them. Very cute and playful little things. She is a sweet girl, 30 lbs, loves to be in your lap getting pet and is a great mom. Her milk is drying up and her pups can be weaned. She is some sort of wirehaired terrier mix. 10-12 wk old female pup - Little
pup - I can't believe someone would let a puppy that young run around
town! She was so scared at the shelter, weighs about 10 lbs.
Ebony - sad girl...loved attention once she was comfortable
coming up to me. Is clearly underweight and probably very hungry. She
has an underbite as well but I couldn't get a good photo of it. When she
hears a sharp sounds her ears stand up and droop at the tips like an Aussie, but funnier! I didn't check for age but she doesn't look old. 
Emily and Grace - 2 Doxie (?) mix pups, 5 lbs each, 8-10 weeks. Emily has a toe injury of some kind...looks like she's missing a toe!
Gilley and Gilda - 2 purebred 20 lb beagles, Gilda is in heat or pregnant or wormy...she is swollen and her tummy is tight. Both Beagles are malnourished but not barky and very friendly. Maybe 2 years old?
Peggy - 2 year old pit, she has stiffness in her rear legs and is depressed. Looks like she just weaned a litter. Very very sweet girl.
Buster - who knows what his breed
is. We put him as a beagle mix. 30 lbs, a bit shy at first but

Adoption: If you would like to adopt, please call the shelter. Fees: Dog/Puppy--$120.00. Puppies will have had first set of shots, wormed once, $12.00 rabies voucher and $65. Spay/Neuter Voucher, Micro-Chipping, Collar, Leash, and a 5 pound bad of food (when available); Cats--$55. Includes Rabies voucher and a five pound bag of food when available.
Rescue: Very rescue friendly! We rely increasingly on rescues to avoid having to euthanize our dogs and cats due to lack of space. If you would like to rescue a dog or cat, please call the shelter.
