Mission Statement: No Kill. Works non-stop to find safe rescues or loving homes for the adoptable animals that, for whatever unfortunate reason, end up at the animal shelter in Leitchfield, Kentucky. We're comprised COMPLETELY of volunteers who donate our time, money, and resources. Because of such conditions, we're constantly faced with an urgent need to move these wonderful pets to safety, in order to avoid the need for euthanasia simply due to lack of space.
Adoption: Out-of-state adoptions are allowed, but a home visit and references are required. Adoption fees: Cats and Kittens $55; Adult Dogs $85; Puppies $100. All animals adopted from us will be altered before placement and will receive their vaccinations and worming. The adoption fees only serve to cover such expenses. While the adoption fee for cats includes testing for FeLV/FIV, heartworm testing for dogs can be done for an additional expense. You can apply online or you can email the shelter volunteers at dwhite@aggressiveonline.net or call 270-230-8839 to request that an adoption application be emailed or sent via regular mail to you.
Rescue: Sponsored dogs are free to approved rescue groups. Contact us ASAP either via email at dwhite@aggressiveonline.net or via telephone at 270-230-8839. Rescues that are new to working with us would need to submit a list of their vet references, rescue references, an outline of their adoption policies, and reason(s) why they would ever euthanize a pet. Low cost vetting is available.

Sponsoring: Involves making a donation in any amount to help cover the vetting needs of the shelter pet of your choice. If you would like to pay the full sponsorship fee for a cat or kitten, it costs $55, while adult dogs are $85, and puppies are $100. Sponsorships can also be in the form of little "care packages" that are sent to the pet(s) of your choice.
Fostering: We're always in need of additional foster homes to take these deserving animals into their care while they wait to be adopted or rescued. years old. My story is kind of a sad one, I'm afraid, and many of us
senior cats (and dogs) have similar tales. I developed glaucoma (a
treatable condition when people care), but my owners left it too long
and it looked like I might lose my eye. Being the humanitarians they
were, they were going to have me PTS instead of finding a way to help a
pet they had for ten years. 
Fortunately, the wonderful Grayson
volunteers heard about my plight, and my owners agreed to release me to

and kind, and are providing me with great rations, as they don't like

shelter by a lady who claimed she found me in her barn, and was
afraid of what might happen to me because of her dogs. When told I
might perish in this overcrowded shelter by the weary volunteer, she

very sad. Being a sweet little cranberry, I can't be sad for long, for

at home in a comfy, plush chair than on the streets. Right now, I'm

far more time with the cats than my fellow canines. While shelter life
is never an ideal situation, I do like spending my days with the feline

Lucy was chained outside until the ice storm that we had here and she was brought into the house at that time. Her owner said that she was very easy to house train. That doesn't surprise us, because in addition to her beauty, Lucy also has brains. She is a very smart dog. Lucy needs a home, a family. She would do well with older children...Lucy had a 13 year old friend who misses her very much. She also does very well with the middle school kids who visit the shelter. Lucy appears to play well with the other dogs in the field and when she was by the cats she just looked at them, she didn't lunge. Lucy could be further tested with the cats. This is a great dog who appears to be about 2 years old. She needs to get out of here. She really would do so much better within a home environment. We're hoping that there's a rescue or a family out there that thinks Lucy is as great as we do and calls us soon!

a wonderful old girl, and old might be the operative word here. The
vets guess me to be possibly 10 years old. I was brought in by animal
control in very bad shape with a huge tumor. Even though one tumor was
hanging down, I still enjoyed my time going to the field. Finally I
had surgery and 3 tumors were removed including one in my ear which was
lasered. I was spayed at the same time and could probably use a dental
now since my teeth are in very poor shape. As you can see in my video,
I'm still lively and loving. The volunteers put young Dax the Beagle
in my kennel and I was so happy to have a doggy friend. I hear he is
leaving, though, and while I'm happy for him, I'm sad for me. I just
need a place for a few more years. I think you would like my company

ABOUT THIS SHELTER:
Mission Statement: Estill County Animal Shelter is a County-operated shelter in rural Kentucky. Besides our own small county, four other counties without shelters feed into ours. Last year we took in over 2100 dogs and 500 cats. We have a 25 kennel capacity, so dogs who come into our shelter have only 5-7 days to find a home. Owner surrenders, puppies, cats, and kittens have even less time. EXTREMELY LOW adoption rate in this area (2-4 each week). If a animal is on Petfinder, it should be considered "URGENT". There ARE cats/dogs that come into the shelter that will not be posted online. Please contact the shelter NO LATER than Wednesdays if you are interested in adopting/fostering/pulling. Animals are euthanized EVERY week on Thursday morning at 5:00 am.
Adoption: $25. That includes a 7-way shot, license, and rabies (if old enough). Adoption fees can be made by credit card to our paypal account estillcoanimalshelter@yahoo.com but the fee is $28, to cover Paypal's fees. If you are interested in adopting a dog from the shelter, the $25 pull/adoption fee MUST be paid ($28 for paypal) and arrangements made for the dog to be OUT of the shelter before the dog is considered "safe. Mission Statement: We are an open admissions animal shelter for Shelby County. We are governed by the Shelby County Fiscal Court and operated by Shelby County tax dollars. Bandit was an owner surrender when her family had to move and could not
take her. It was a horrible sight to see this dogs beloved owner, a
young boy, cry as Bandit was walked away. Bandit is a very sweet dog
and you could tell she loved her people very much. She is less then 1
year old and thanks to the Shelby County No Kill Mission, Bandit has
been spayed, vaccinated, wormed, heartworm tested and she will be micro
chipped. Please give Bandit's young owner a little peace of mind by giving his loved pet a new home.

Sammy was surrendered to the shelter when his family had to move. He is
only 9 months old and a very sweet boy. He likes to go outside to potty
and does well in a crate. The previous owner's were uncertain if he was
housebroken????? Sammy likes older kids and will tolerate younger kids if they can
handle his rough play behavior. Sammy is O.K. with cats and since being

Poor Cramer came into the shelter today as a stray. He has an apparent gun shot to his shoulder. A kind family took him in last night and cleaned his wound and called us this morning. This does not appear to be causing a great deal of pain for this little guy but we are going to seek vet care for him. Cramer is going to need a rescue or new home after his stay time. Faith Elise is a young,very small sweet girl that was brought into the
shelter in serious condition. She was on the verge of death. An
emergency c-section was done to remove dead kittens and very infected
uterus. Faith Elise has a massive infection and is suffering from
anemia due to a flea infestation.
Despite her medical condition and weakness, Faith Elise
continuously purrs/head butts/makes happy feet in appreciation for the
help she has received. Faite Elise has been feline leukemia tested negative
Faith Elise needs your help. She is receiving around the clock
care. She is receiving two antibiotics, IV fluids, pain medications and
