August 1, 2010: Paintsville, KY ~ Dogs Found AbandonedFifteen to twenty dogs were abandoned at a home in Paintsville, KY. Some were locked inside the house with no food or water and others were outside with no shelter, food or water. Many were very skinny. Some had mange, worms, anemia, flea infestation, broken legs or old fractures that had healed without medical attention A VERY, VERY pregnant beagle had NO MILK from lack of food/water. She also had a previously broken front leg that healed incorrectly.

August 7, 2010: Casey County ~ Kentucky Woman Arrested after more than 111 dogs found in homeMore than 100 dogs were living in deplorable conditions behind a Casey County home. Investigators say a disturbing discovery came, when they found about a dozen dead dogs lodged in freezers in the home. The volunteers found dogs living in feces and without food, water or bedding. Some dogs had lime and concrete matted into their fur, while others exhibited symptoms of extreme dehydration. Veterinarians and volunteers worked throughout the night to catalog and treat the dogs. One dog died shortly after arriving at the humane society because of severe dehydration. Two more died over the course of the next day.

August 8, 2010: Somerset, KY ~ Man charged with torturing, killing puppy as children watchedA
Pulaski County man tortured and killed a six month old puppy in front
of several children. More than one child watched as the puppy's tail was
cut off with a knife and it was squeezed and slammed onto concrete
steps at a house. The man told officers the six-month-old Jack Russell
Terrier was sick and he didn't have money to take it to a veterinarian.
The puppy, which belonged to his girlfriend's 12-year-old daughter, died
shortly after the incident.

August 16, 2010: Pike County, KY ~ Dumped, left to DieThree tiny puppies were dumped in Pike County in a remote location in a bag of Dog Food - No Water, and in this Heat! A
man checking gas lines in the area found them. One of the puppies was
too sick and had to be euthanized. Hannah and Honey are being nursed
back to health by the Shamrock Foundation in Louisville. They are 8 to 9
weeks old and weigh just 1.2 lbs. These babies are very sick and
require 24 hour care. They have mange, fleas, and were very dehydrated.

A Kentucky woman was drunk when she dragged a dog for several miles behind a van.
The dashcam of a Taylor County sheriff's deputy’s cruiser captured
disturbing footage of a coonhound named Luke, as a black van van dragged
him along US-68 near Campbellsville. When the driver was finally
stopped, it was too late for Luke. He attempted to take five or six deep
breaths. Two or three minutes later Luke passed away. The driver had
borrowed the van and never saw that Luke was tied to the back.

August 20, 2010: Williamsburg, KY ~ Officer shoots stray dog after being called to helpWorkers
at an office complex in Whitley County befriended a big white stray
dog. The dog called Bugsy - the name on his collar - was gentle, timid,
and could not be caught. The workers worried about Bugsy’s
safety, so they called animal control, hoping that Bugsy would be taken
to the animal shelter, cleaned up, and adopted out. Instead, the officer pulled out a .22 rifle, then shot Bugsy twice, killing him.

I have a list of 60 dogs in need. If I get enough rescues to help, I can rent a van and get them all to Evansville IN for pick up or to a surrounding area. Here is a brief list I can get more detailsif anyone has interest in helping. It would be easiest if you can take a breed --just take them all. I am leaving no one behind. Just send me an email with what you can help with and I will let you know if I get enough response to help this group out. I have helped these particular breeders before. Their dogs are pretty socialized, and if they are not they warm up nicely. All are able to be potty trained with pretty good success as well.

Dignity was rescued from the county kennel after his owner turned him
for euthanization with agreement to adopt if someone wanted him. This boy is smart, bone thin at 69#'s and we are working on getting his weight up (5 or 10 #;'s) . Dignity is up to date on his shots and dewormed. He is waggy tail, good natured, friendly, doesn't like to share his food right now (understandable), and sits, stays. Walks great on leash and listens well. I had him near a couple small dogs and he was curious but listened to 'leave it' and 'no' one time. We pulled him from the county pound so he wouldn't be put down in the gas chamber (at owners request). I won him a stay from the warden, should they have to because of space they will. I would like to get him back to health but really honestly don't know what I will do with him once that is accomplished. We do small dog rescue and don't have the fencing a healthy dog this big would require. I just couldn't see a senior dying in the gas chamber. He is being boarded til we find a home for him or rescue. Dignity earned his name as this rescue believes that seniors should be able die with dignity. While at the vet he saw some small dogs, showed curiosity and listened to the command 'leave it'. He will sit and stay. If he is kept on leash for walks, he will not need a fence. He just needs a soft bed and a quiet loving home to spend his last years in.

Carmello Boxer [Mix] Large Adult Male EXTREMELY URGENT! Carmello
was a former pound dog adopted locally and then put on a chain to spend
his life. I have to wonder why people get dogs only to stick him on a
chain. As most of us know, chaining causes a dog to be aggressive.
Apparently this is what happened to Caremello. He
broke his chain Monday and attacked another dog in neighborhood. Now he

UPDATE!!!!!!!! Thank you to all the people that made such gererous donations. Thanks to them we had Scoot's x-rays done. Unfortunately
we got some bad news, both hip are again out of socket. We were pretty
sure one of them was and had most of the money to have a FHO done . Now
we are begging for just a little more to help pay for the second one.
All I can say is that she is worth it. She loves to sit in your lap an
have her head rubbed. If you stop before she is done she will give you a
nudge to get you to start again. She will try to follow you around the
house. She starts by walking and if she gets tired she will scoot around

SLIM JIM came in as a stray and was terrified. He curled up in a fetal position when we tried to interact with him - all we could do at first talk to him and hold him for a short time. After three days of our continual sweet talking we got him on the leash! He cowered at first - but really liked being outside in the sun. SLIM JIM is good on a leash. He will just sit down is you stop walking. He watches and waits for your direction. He tries to walk into the brush and bushes to hide because he's still unsure. He's eating fine - and is a healthy boy. At this point he is still is still cautious and scared about other animals - although he does like to sniff the kitties. He's opening up to people more and more. SLIM JIM is young unaltered male. He's a small guy - about 22 pounds - and is not quite a year old. He's not going to get much larger - and is a great size for almost any home! He's a beautiful chocolate brown short haired boy with the most beautiful striking yellow eyes! When he's sitting he is so handsome he looks like one of those cement driveway ornaments! His kennel card says that he's a Lab Hound mix. However, I believe that SLIM JIM is a Whippet mix. He's a small thin framed boy who loves to sprint and can be very quick. He has a long tail that is held low with a slight curl up on the end. He does like to be held and will be a good companion.

Spade Black Labrador Retriever Mix Medium Adult Male URGENT! - Was left on the side of the road with his crate. Spade seems to be housebroken and is good with children and the female dogs
we allow him to exercise/play with, not tested with male dogs yet. Like
many dogs-he will chase a cat. He is approx 3 years old and weighs
about 65 pounds. Problem is, Spade is now running out of time and he's

Wyatt Dogo Argentino Medium Adult Male URGENT! Wyatt was found wandering around with a cable and stake attached to his collar. He was sick, thin and full of parasites upon arrival but has been treated
and is the picture of health. He has picked up 10 pounds of pure muscle
and is an energetic boy now. He is a bit hesitant and suspicious with
some people and needs an experienced owner that can properly socialize
him and teach him. He has shown no signs of aggression toward other dogs

This is a desperate situation for this mom and pups. Daviess County Animal Control, a kill shelter, has a very, very pregnant cattle dog mix named Megan in the shelter. A foster mom extraordinaire went to the Breckinridge County Animal Shelter to see if she could help the dogs still stuck there by taking their pictures and getting the word out. She found an adorable young red Kelpie mix female who appeared to have a broken back leg. Of course, the shelter does not pay for any vet treatment whatsoever. And that meant this little girl would have been put to sleep had this foster carer not walked in the very day she was picked up by animal control. The foster carer took her home, named her Penny. Someone tried to kill Penny and missed. The bullet hit her in the rear right knee. There is no evidence of where the bullet entered her body, so it has been at least a couple of months since some idiot took aim at her. Her rear right leg will probably always be stiff. Penny weighs 29.5 pounds right now, but she needs to gain at least 10 pounds. She is approximately 1.5 years old. As a Kelpie cross, I’m sure she has a long life ahead of her! I'm sure Penny is probably not a purebred Kelpie, but she definitely has a very healthy dose of Kelpie in her. Penny had all of her vet work done. She very much needs rescue.

I know the economy is bad but there is no excuse for this behavior. I just hope someone can help these sweet dogs and puppies. Two puppies and four young adult dogs need to find some rescue who can help them find new homes. Their owners moved and left them behind to starve, BUT MADE SURE TO TAKE THEIR ROOSTERS USED FOR FIGHTING! The place is a dump and the neighbors have been trying to help feed them but they were so hungry when we gave them some food today and they had no water. The house has no water or electric hooked up and the dogs need help soon. The two puppies are very cute and the older dogs look like they have the same mom. There are two yellow lab mix females, a black and white one is a male and a Shepherd Beagle mix is a male. None have been spayed or neutered and none of them have had any shots yet. Everyone is sweet and friendly.They loved attention and crave someone showing them a little bit of love. They are in the McMinnville, TN area.

I need to find a home for 2 hound dogs (male and female). They are not my dogs, they are my neighbors. He beats them, hardly feeds them, there water buckets are stagnate (we can't get them off the wire to wash them), they live in the smallest cages, they have no protection from the sun or rain except for tiny dog houses they don't use, when they bark and cry he sprays them with the water hose as punishment. They never get out to go play or do other doggie things, and my mother and I sit and cry about it.
We have called the Humane Society but they didn't do anything because they had water and food (we feed and water them but the neighbors yell at us for doing so) The female is still a puppy but she is already full-grown. I think she is about a year old. I am not sure about the male.
My mom is willing to drive them to someone if we can find someone who will take them. If you know anyone that wants them, please let me know. My mom moves to Vermont Monday so we kind of need to do it before then since she has a truck. Thanks.

Trying to find a placement for a very friendly young adult female American Staffordshire Terrier / Dogo Argentino mix @ our facility. This girl came in as a stray so we don't have much information on her. She is very active, athletic and eager to please. She has a very HIGH ball drive and would be an excellent dog for anyone interested in agility, disc dog trials, dock jumping, weight pull or other canine sport. She may also be a good candidate for a service or working dog (detection, police work, therapy dog ect.) I can not express enough how driven this girl is. She is super sweet and beautiful as well. She came into the shelter with professionally docked ears.

They are males, unaltered, and up to date with their shots. One of them is 9 months, the other is about 1.5 years old. They have good temperaments and seem to be very good with people, alright with other dogs (that’s usually shaky with unaltered males), and have had minimal cat exposure. They are partially housebroken, but spend most of their time outside. They are being fed, watered, and cared for to the best of the ability of the woman who has ended up with them. They are currently located in Lawrenceburg, KY and need to move as soon as possible. Apparently, the man who owned both dogs moved out of his house abruptly one afternoon and left both dogs behind. No one knows how to contact this man and he has not returned at all to check on the dogs or claim them. At this point, the lady caring for them will have to take them to the pound soon if we cannot find rescue for the dogs. They are handsome guys and look healthy.

If they cannot get some of their dogs out to rescues, they will be forced to euthanize healthy, adoptable dogs. Please let them know if you can help. There are no pull fees for approved rescues and some transportation by volunteers is available. NO pull FEES for approved rescues. TRANSPORT We work with transports! 9pm Thursday night (6/16/10). Two are orange and white and two are

Mike and Mandy are siblings, young hounds that need to be rescued. I pulled them from the Bath County kennels. These two are wonderful dogs...scared now but they are joyful, eager to please, fun and hopeful. They're fully vetted, and Mike needs a little time for the feet to heal (caused by standing in his own waste at the shelter!) They are about 6-8 months old. They are both very thin, so I'm ask
