Rescue: Rescue Friendly.
We work with various rescue organizations who pull our pets into their rescues if they fit their protocol. Some are local, some are regional, and some are even out of the state. Usually for long distance transports, a Humane Society volunteer will take the animal a short distance (usually within an hour's drive), then they will meet up with someone from that area who will drive another "leg" of the trip, where they will meet up with someone else who drives another "leg", and so on.
Contact: Phone: (502) 839-8339   Email: ahs_40342@yahoo.com
Donate: The Humane Society is operated with funds donated by caring citizens such as yourself. You can donate in several different ways: Please visit  http://www.dcr.net/~humane/Donate_Now.html to see how you can donate.
Volunteer:
Want to volunteer, but not sure what you'd like to do? Here are some ideas! Working at the Adoption Center (M-F 9-4; Sat 10-12);  Working Satellite (Off-site) Adoptions; Working Humane Society Awareness Events; Working Fundraising Events;  Transporting Animals To and From the Vet; Transporting Animals to Rescues. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Donna at ahs_40342@yahoo.com
Foster:
Many times, animals come to us ready to give birth. We would rather they be able to do this in a warm, loving home environment rather than in a kennel. Foster homes are a great way for us to make sure our mommies are at their best when their babies arrive. There are also times when a pet is injured when it arrives at the shelter, and needs some healing time and a foster home is the perfect solution. A foster home also benefits an animal because they can be housetrained and socialized in a home situation, which will make them more adoptable, and also eases the overcrowding that we sometimes face. Foster parents are a great asset to the Humane Society and undoubtedly saves lives.
Click here for a foster application
Sponsor:
Each "Gift of Life" sponsorship goes directly to helping an animal in need. Your sponsorship amount will be credited to the animal's adoption fee, lowering the adoption cost and hopefully allowing it to get adopted much sooner.
Spay/Neuter: The Anderson Humane Society is proud to announce that we have recently received a spay/neuter grant from the state and would like to offer discounted spay/neuter vouchers to those in our community who have pets that have not been “fixed”. This program is open to Anderson County residents only, and is limited to two vouchers per household per month. There will be a small co-pay for each pet, depending on species, gender, and size. Co-pays range from $20 to $35. Please pick up an application at the shelter (located at 1410 Versailles Road) or on the blue Humane Society newsboard (located inside Wal-Mart in the pet section) or download one: http://www.dcr.net/~humane/SNAP.html

Animal Control/Shelter
Mission Statement: Our mission at Breckinridge County Animal Shelter is to help control the pet population within the county by placing great dogs to responsible pet owners with great hearts! We are located in rural Western Kentucky approximately 1 hour 45 minutes west of Louisville. We are a small shelter with 15 dog runs, and we try to move animals into rescue as quickly as possible so that we do not have to euthanize them for space reasons. We DO NOT accept any cats, or cat-related calls at this time.
Adoption: If you would ever like to come into our shelter and adopt on a weekend or holiday, we will be more than happy to assist you in making an appointment and meeting you at the shelter. ALL adopted dogs MUST get a rabies vaccine within 72 hours of adoption and must be spayed or neutered within the time allotted on the adoption form. This is at the adopters expense.
Rescue: Rescue Friendly! There is no pull fee for approved rescues. All of our animals have been bathed, de-wormed with Anthlaban, and treated for ticks and fleas with Frontline. We can arrange for low-cost vetting at a local vet clinic if you would like to complete vet work prior to transport. Otherwise, you can complete vet work near your rescue and send us proof of sterilization. Animals must have rabies vaccinations prior to most transports. We provide a shelter travel health certificate for each animal.
Transport: We do our best to help with transports, but we can not organize entire transports for you. We can usually make sure animals make it to transport stops in towns like Elizabethtown, Leitchfield, and Louisville. We will do our absolute best to try to get animals to Lexington, Cincinnati, and Indianapolis if necessary.

Shelter
/Animal Control
Mission Statement:
Murray-Calloway Animal Shelter has a very high “turnover rate” due to the ever-rising number of homeless pets, both stray and owner turn in. Their time at the shelter is limited and the pet you are viewing may no longer be available. (This could be remedied with responsible pet ownership and always spaying or neutering all pets!) The shelter volunteers may not have the opportunity to list all available pets, and there are so many wonderful animals needing homes.
Adoption:
Our adoption fee is $20.00 (cash only). You must sign a contract agreeing to get all vet care needed for the animal, including spaying or neutering. We offer a discount voucher for spay/neuter assistance based on income. You must be 18 years or older to adopt a pet. We will be happy to give you additional information on any animal in our shelter, just give us a call.
Rescue:
Rescue Friendly.

Contact:
  Ph: 270-759-4141   Email: animalshelter@murray-ky.net
Spay/Neuter:
The Humane Society of Calloway County offers assistance for spays and neuters (must apply and meet requirements). Applications are available at the shelter or humane society.
Transport
: Can usually help with transport
Sponsoring: We are seeking businesses or private individuals to sponsor the Spay or Neuter of a shelter cat or kitten older than 5 months. The cost is $45.00 to sponsor a spay and $35.00 to sponsor a neuter, which is tax-deductable. This donation also covers a rabies vaccination.
Donating:
The shelter relies heavily on donations, either monetary or the necessary supplies to better the care and treatment of all animals within our shelter. If you are interested in helping us to achieve these goals, please consider a cash donation. http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/KY80.html#info
Fostering:
We are always in need of responsible folks who are willing to offer good temporary homes for our orphaned animals. Some foster candidates are shelter animals who are on their way to rescue groups in other areas, but are required to be housed outside of the shelter population for a short time. If you are in a position to open your home to one of our animals in need, please contact us at (270) 759-1884. You can also download a foster care application at www.forthepets.org

Friends of the Shelter is a program that is through the Humane Society of Calloway County.  This program accepts donations which goes towards helping to provide vet care to shelter pets, such as spay and neutering, antibiotics or needed grooming. These services often help to improve the adoptability of the pet and spay/neuter assist in combating pet overpopulation by adopting out already fixed cats. Rescue/Shelter Support LBL finds loving homes for neglected and orphaned animals. They work with the Murray-Calloway County Animal Shelter in Kentucky. All of LBL animals are rescued from shelters the day that they are scheduled to be killed. They do not have a shelter or facility to house the animals that are rescued. Mission Statement:  Our main goal here is to find as many forever homes for animals as possible.
Adopting:  We have an easy adoption policy and open to any person for adoption. Adoption fee: $50 for all dogs no matter their size, age, breed, orientation, etc. unless they have been sponsored or have outstanding vet bills.  These fees are the only funding we have for our adoption program.
Contact:   Phone: (270) 286-6096  Email: ecanimalshelter@windstream.net
Volunteering: Volunteers with prior approval are greatly welcomed and appreciated! Call or email us to set up a date to volunteer.
Spay/Neuter:
Be sure to check with us about any grants for spay and neuter that we may be getting for your county! We also offer reduced rate spay/neuter certificates for purchase on the first Saturday of each month for surgeries performed by Dr. Roger Thomas' Vet Clinic in Smith's Grove, KY. The animal owner is responsible for the transportation to and from the vet's office in Smith's Grove.
Other Information: We opened in January of 07 as an official shelter although Greg Carroll (shelter owner) has been the dog warden for four years prior to the opening. Greg completed his training in euthanasia in October of 2002 and the shelter was approved by the state prior to its opening in January, 2007. The shelter is run by Greg and his wife, Kim along with their daughter, Taylor. Lost Animals: We can now post your lost animal on our page. Email or bring in a picture and some information about your animal and we will post it.

Shelter/Animal Control
  Serves Five Counties: Estill
, Wolfe, Lee, Owsley and Jackson Counties
Mission Statement:  Estill County Animal Shelter is a County-operated shelter in rural Kentucky. Dogs are held 5-7 days before we euthanize. We hold as long as we possibly can. All owner turn -ins can be euthanzied when they are brought in but we try to give them that same chance at life as the stray. Because we are such high volume and serve 5 counties, we cannot hold a dog very long for rescue. We will always try to do everything we can to help out, but understand that we have a 25 kennel capacity, we always have to make room for dogs coming into the shelter. Animals are euthanized EVERY week on Thursday morning at 5:00 am.
Adoption:
Fee: $25. That includes a 7-way shot, license, and rabies (if old enough). Adoption fees can be made by credit card to our paypal account estillcoanimalshelter@yahoo.com but the fee is $28, to cover Paypal's fees. If you are interested in adopting a dog from the shelter, the $25 pull/adoption fee MUST be paid ($28 for paypal) and arrangements made for the dog to be OUT of the shelter before the dog is considered
safe.
For Information regarding pull fees, dogs, policy, general questions, or to adopt, please contact estillcoanimalshelter@yahoo.com
Rescue: Reputable rescues are always
welcomed. Pull fees ($25.00) can be made to our paypal account estillcoanimalshelter@yahoo.com but the fee is $28, to cover Paypal's fees. Some vet services are available for additional costs, including spay/neuter, heartworm test, and rabies vaccine.

Sponsoring:
If you have room in your heart, but not in your home for one of our pets, you can sponsor their spay/neuter fee, which would greatly increase their chances of finding a forever home. If you'd like to sponsor a dog or cat, $50-$65 is usually all it takes to get one of our animals altered. A $25 sponsor fee will be enough to save most animals by allowing them to get to rescues. If you're interested in sponsoring one of our animals, please email Sandie at estillcoanimalshelter@yahoo.com or call Sandie at 606-723-3587 to see what is needed to sponsor a pet. http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/KY125.html
Donating:
We always look forward to donations to help the need to make life a little more comfortable for the animals and we would love to be able to acquire outdoor runs for the summer months. this year has been rough for many pets all over because of our economy everyone is having problems but many are having to get rid of their beloved pets.

Animal Advocacy/Rescue
Serving the needs of animals in Fulton County KY, Obion and Weakley Counties in TN.
Mission Statement: The Ken-Tenn Humane Society is committed to making a positive difference in the welfare and quality of life for the animals in our area.  We do this by maintaining programs to educate and encourage the public to have their pets spayed or neutered to avoid over-population and unwanted animals.  We make every effort to place abandoned, mistreated, and homeless animals to avoid death by starvation or euthanasia. A staff of committed, confident, and caring volunteers  assure that our mission continues to meet our expectations and standards of excellence. We do not have a shelter to house abandoned or unwanted pets so we rely upon the generosity of members and community citizens to provide foster homes for dogs and cats until we can help locate a safe and new home for these pets.
Adoption: We assist people with pet adoption.  Our members are aware of pets in the area that are available for adoption and we attempt to find homes for them through an organized “Pet-Adoption-Day” or by on-going communication with people wanting to adopt and those that have pets available.
Ken-Tenn personnel make every effort to assure that the pets are only adopted to caring, loving homes.  We conduct interviews at the time of adoption and do follow-up checks to assure that the new pet and owner are compatible. Anyone interested in adopting  should call Glenn or Pat at 1-731-235-9603 or Lois at 731-479-2079.
Spay/Neuter:  Ken-Tenn personnel negotiate fees with vets to  provide pet owners with reasonable spay/neutering costs in an effort to decrease the unwanted animal population in our area.  Sometimes grants are available to assist the pet owners with this procedure and these funds are used strictly for this purpose. For residents of northwest Tennessee and southwest Kentucky (Obion and Weakley Counties in Tennessee and Fulton County in Kentucky), low cost spay/neuter for pet cats and feral cats. Also, they offer advice on how to maintain feral cat colonies.   Email: lkipling@utm.edu
Foster: Foster homes are scarce.  Perhaps you have a fenced yard or acceptable place to keep an unwanted pet temporarily until we could find a home for it. Through generous donations by our local businesses, we are able to provide food for all our foster animals.
Donate:
Any amount you can contribute will be deeply appreciated and 100% of your contribution will be used to improve the quality of life for the many, many animals in our area requiring attention.   http://www.kentennhumanesociety.com/
Volunteer: We need dedicated volunteers who wish to become members and who have the time and desire to help us in this worth-while endeavor.

Shelter/Animal Control

Mission Statement: Our major concern continues to be the large number of unwanted animals in our city and county. We are a kill shelter. We grieve for each and every animal that is euthanized in our shelter. Until pet owners take the responsibility to insure that animals do not continue to produce unwanted litters of puppies and kittens, the number of animals will continue to grow much faster that the number of homes available for them. We urge all pet owners to spay or neuter your pets and if you are looking for a pet for your family, please consider saving one from a shelter.
Adoption:
Adoption fee: For any animal  $110.00. All of our dogs are up to date on shots, have been dewormed, have been heartworm tested if they are old enough and are spayed or neutered prior to adoption. All of our cats are also up to date on shots, have been tested for feline leukemia and FIV (if 6 months or older), and are spayed or neutered prior to going to their new home.
Rescue:
We work with many rescue organizations across the country in order to give as many dogs and cats as we can a better chance at finding a new home.

Shelter
Mission Statement: The Grayson County Humane Society is a small group of volunteers who are working to change our local animal shelter from a high-kill, low adoption facility to a Low- or no-kill facility with a high rescue/adoption/reclamation rate. We're comprised COMPLETELY of volunteers who donate our time, money, and resources. Because of such conditions, we're constantly faced with an urgent need to move these wonderful pets to safety, in order to avoid the need for euthanasia simply due to lack of space.
Adoption: Out-of-state adoptions are allowed, but a home visit and references are required. Adoption fees: Cats and Kittens $55; Adult Dogs $85; Puppies $100. All animals adopted from us will be altered before placement and will receive their vaccinations and worming. The adoption fees only serve to cover such expenses. While the adoption fee for cats includes testing for FeLV/FIV, heartworm testing for dogs can be done for an additional expense.  You can apply online or you can email the shelter volunteers at dwhite@aggressiveonline.net or call 270-230-8839 to request that an adoption application be emailed or sent via regular mail to you.
Rescue:
We welcome rescues to look at our residents and will convey to no-kill organizations.  Sponsored dogs are free to approved rescue groups. Contact us ASAP either via email at dwhite@aggressiveonline.net or via telephone at 270-230-8839. Rescues that are new to working with us would need to submit a list of their vet references, rescue references, an outline of their adoption policies, and reason(s) why they would ever euthanize a pet. Low cost vetting is available.

Transport: USUALLY AVAILABLE (often to Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and sometimes even Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont) PLEASE JUST ASK!!!
Sponsoring:
Involves making a donation in any amount to help cover the vetting needs of the shelter pet of your choice. If you would like to pay the full sponsorship fee for a cat or kitten, it costs $55, while adult dogs are $85, and puppies are $100. Sponsorships can also be in the form of little "care packages" that are sent to the pet(s) of your choice.
Fostering:
We're always in need of additional foster homes to take these deserving animals into their care while they wait to be adopted or rescued. Please contact us either via email at dwhite@aggressiveonline.net or via telephone at 270-230-8839 if you'd like to open your heart and home to a foster pet. You can also fill out a volunteer foster application online and one of our other volunteers will get back to you as soon as possible.
Volunteering:
As the Grayson County Humane Society/SPCA is comprised of only four main volunteers and two occasional volunteers, we're always in need of extra hands to work on a wide variety of tasks. Please feel free to contact us if you'd like to help

Shelter/Animal Control
Mission Statement:
The Harlan County Animal Shelter was established by Harlan County Fiscal Court.  Its mission is to provide services which safeguard the public health and safety and to humanely house and care for the animals in its charge. Many of our animals are not lucky enough to get rescued or adopted. Too often, pets are thrown away when they are simply no longer wanted or are too difficult to maintain. These are the animals we strive to find "forever homes" for. We attempt to save as many orphaned and neglected animals as we possibly can. Please see if any of our animals are what you have been looking for.
Adoption:  Fees: Cats/kittens:  $7.00 each; Dogs/puppies: $15.00 each.  Animal Adoption Contract must be signed and abided by.  Pet(s) must be spayed or neutered within one (1) month of adoption from the Harlan County Animal Shelter.  We are happy to adopt animals out to loving homes from out of state, however you need to have a plan to get your new pet. Please do not contact us and ask us to ship or drive your puppy to you. If you would like to adopt or foster a Harlan county dog, please email harlanshelter@gmail.com
Rescue:
If you are interested in rescuing, please contact us as soon as possible and we will work with you to help the animals.
Contact:
Email harlanshelter@gmail.com    Ph: 630-640-6556  or  Hannah  pupresq@bellsouth.net
Transport:  Available! We have regular transports in several directions. Ask about them, if you are an approved rescue group and want to help a dog, but have no way to get it to you.
Sponsoring/Donating: We really need donations of Revolution to treat mange. Dr. Fosters & Smith Site and1800PetMeds Site. Following donations are always needed and greatly appreciated: towels, blankets, kitty litter, puppy food, cleaning supplies, Old crates, with or without doors (we're making warm and snugly "indoor dog houses" for the kennels!)

Brighter Days for Shelters
Email:  pupresq@bellsouth.net

Shelter Support/Rescue
Mission Statement:
Our mission is to help underserved shelters improve the treatment and care available to animals in their custody and to reduce the number of potentially adoptable pets that are euthanized.  Brighter Days acts as a liaison between shelters and rescue groups, coordinating rescue efforts and transportation, providing positive publicity, and increasing shelter visibility within the community. Brighter Days also works directly with shelters to help improve shelter conditions through fundraising, donations, and capacity building. Brighter Days members foster former shelter animals, vetting them and offering them for adoption to responsible homes.BDFS is a foster-based network in the greater Lexington area and has no central location.
Adopting: The animals offered for adoption through BDFS are nearly all animals from the shelters that we work with. These animals are fostered in our members’ homes, quarantined, fully vetted, temperament tested, and many have begun basic training. Adoption Fees: Dogs may be adopted for between $100 and $250. Cats may be adopted for $65-150. All animals come to you spayed or neutered and up to date on vaccinations. All cats are combo tested and negative for leukemia and feline AIDS; dogs over 6 months are tested and negative for heartworms. All animals have been dewormed, treated with a flea and tick preventative, and dogs are current on heartworm preventative. All animals are microchipped for permanent identification.
Donating: BDFS can always use your help! Please check the supply list on our website for items that participating shelters have requested. If you have supplies you’d like to donate, let us know and we’ll pick them up! Monetary donations are also always appreciated and can be made quickly and safely using our PayPal button. http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/KY246.html
Volunteering: BDFS can always use volunteers and has many different opportunities to match your interests and lifestyle. Email us and let us know! We welcome your help.
Other Information: Members of BDFS are currently working with the following shelters: Harlan County Animal Shelter (http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/KY197.html)   Powell County Dog Pound (http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/KY248.html)

Education/Spay/Neuter/Advocacy
Mission
Statement:  Our mission is to educate the public on how to care for animals, the importance of spay or neuter, and safety with animals (children). We also aim to improve the quality of life for both domesticated and stray animals in our county.
Spay/Neuter:
(Low cost discount offered): Our organization provides assistance to pet owners within our county who cannot afford the full cost of spaying or neutering their pets through a grant we received. To get an application please send a self-addressed stamped envelope to our P.O. Box and we will send you an application. (This group depends on outside donations and on grants, so funds are not certain).
Pet Education: Last school year we visited half of the elementary schools in the county teaching the children about proper treatment of animals and safety with pets. It is our hope to finish the rest of the county schools this school year.
Donations:
Our budget is extremely small and with your kind donation we could do so much more. What money we have currently goes to spay/neuter programs, educational materials, and occasionally, when possible, helping an animal in need of medical attention. But unfortunately, as you probably know, even small problems are sometimes very costly so we don't get to do that near as much as we would like. We accept pretty much any type of donation, i.e. yard sale items, fundraiser items, cages, and money orders or checks. We will accept as much or as little as you can give. Please contact us if you would like to help.
Volunteer: Volunteers are greatly needed and much appreciated!
As much time as you can give if it is only two hours a month will help so much. We need help with humane educational programs, fundraising, ideas, and more!
Membership: We are offering FREE memberships with every donation of $5 or more. If you give a donation of $20 or more you will receive one of our T-Shirts FREE also!

Increase the adoption rate through local, statewide and out of state adoptions and to utilize the vast network of quality rescues available.  Partner with the community of Jessamine County to become a shelter that the county is proud of. To invite service groups and individuals to take an active role in the S.A.V.E. Center. Work with the schools of Jessamine County to educate children on the humane treatment of animals, the importance of spaying and neutering and responsible pet ownership. We are NOT no kill--although we would like to be.
