SLAUGHTERS, KY - Injured dog- broken leg - no medical helpPlease watch this video from the Webster County Dog Pound taken on March 10, 2010. This dog entered the dog pound on March 3, 2010 and has not been provided any medical attention. As you can see from the video the dog's leg is clearly broken and the bone can be seen from each side of the dog's leg. The dog warden for Webster County is John Dunn and he needs to be terminated from his position. He has refused to allow this dog any medical attention. This is not the first time this abuse has occurred.

GIVEN THAT, THERE IS NO PROOF THAT THE DOG HAS BEEN VETTED AND NO BODY. THE DOG WARDEN IS NOT ALLOWING ANYONE INSIDE THE DOG POUND TO VERIFY THAT THE DOG IS GONE. THE ASSUMPTION IS THAT THE DOG IS STILL IN THE DOG POUND AND THAT THEY ARE NOT ALLOWING ANYONE IN TO SEE IT BECAUSE THEY FEAR THE TROUBLE THAT THEY ARE IN.
THE FACT STILL REMAINS THAT THE DOG WAS SURRENDERED BY B. GREEN IN SLAUGHTERS, KY., ON MARCH 3, 2010 . THE DOG REMAINED IN THE DOG POUND, UNVETTED FOR AT LEAST 7 DAYS, AND ALLOWED TO SUFFER BY THE DOG WARDEN AND COUNTY.
SUPPOSEDLY THE DOG WAS ATTACKED BY A "PIT BULL," BUT THAT IS NOT WHAT B. GREEN STATES. SHE STATES THAT A "LARGE DOG" CAME INTO HER YARD AND ATTACKED THE DOG. UPON BEING PICKED UP. THE DOG WARDEN TOLD B. GREEN THAT THE WOUND OBVIOUSLY WAS FROM BEING SHOT.
UPDATE: AT 1:30PM THE STATE POLICE SHOWED UP AND ACCOMPANIED THE NEWS CREW DOWN TO THE WEBSTER COUNTY DOG POUND. DOG WARDEN JOHN DUNN ATTEMPTED TO REFUSE ACCESS, BUT THE STATE TROOPER INSISTED THAT HE WAS PRESSING CHARGES, AND THAT HE WOULD BE GRANTED ACCESS. MR. DUNN THEN ALLOWED THE STATE TROOPER INSIDE, BUT NOT THE NEWS CREW.
UPDATE: 4:00 PM March 11: We have confirmation that the dog with the broken leg from Webster County was humanely euthanized. Upon the dog warden learning of the video he immediately took the dog to a veterinarian and had it euthanized. Animal cruelty charges are being pressed against him as we speak for the week that it suffered.
This dog did not die for nothing. Hopefully the end result will be the removal of the county dog warden.

Leo is a special boy who has not had the right start in life. Unfortunately Leo's
owners failed him in this. He was left to run loose outdoors without
supervision, and when a neighborhood child saw the adorable pup she
went to play with him, and Leo, not knowing her, bit her. That is how
he ended up at the shelter, so that he could be quarantined for the
bite. Once at the shelter, Leo did act aggressively towards the shelter
staff, but after a few days started to warm up to me, and I have been
able to work with him. He is now great with me, and has come around a
great deal with other staff members. It is obvious that Leo is a smart boy, he
has not had one potty accident in his cage, and is eagerly awaiting to
be taken out every morning so that he can go potty. Leo is super eager
to please, and will respond well to training. Due to the fact that Leo
has bitten we cannot adopt him out, but we are hoping that a rescue can
step forward and give him the fresh start in life he deserves. Please

queen, but sadly, she is now too sick to care for Sassy anymore. This

Northern, KY: Horses Available for Adoption

In November of 2009 Speak Up for Horses was given possession of 48 Quarter Horses which were seized by law enforcement after a conviction for animal cruelty. They were going to be sold to a kill buyer for slaughter. These horses are all reining bred, however we do not have registration papers on any of them. We are looking for adopters for these horses. There are all ages and genders. Since the previous owner had the stallions running the farm with the mares, we believe most, if not all the mares are pregnant.
Speak Up's adoption contract requires that all males be gelded and that no horses can be used for breeding. The horses are presently located in Northern Kentucky.
Please spread the word to anyone you think may be interested in adopting one of these lovely horses.

Sadie's owner was hospitalized and she was abandoned in a house for a WEEK! The owner sadly passed away leaving behind young children and Sadie. Relatives took in the children, but Sadie was left homeless, of course. Sadie is a little wary of new people after such a traumatic experience. Once she sniffs you, she's fine. She's good with cats and submissive dogs. She is such a sweet, loving girl and walks perfectly on a leash. She's also housebroken.The ACO who received the call developed a soft spot for Sadie so she took her home as her chances at the shelter were zero-to-none. However she works two jobs with very long hours and Sadie is in a crate basically all day long which isn't an ideal situation. She needs a rescue group or adopter urgently! Jessy came from another KY county. She was seized in a cruelty case.She is HW positive. She lived 9 years in a cage. 9 long years in a cage being bred. She spent the weekend in isolation at the vet's office because of an upper respiratory issue and to get radiographs of her heart to see what damage she has from the HW. We are treating her with the slow kill method. Doxycycline and Heartgard. This is going to be the safest treatment for Jessy.

This young girl is the victim (as are so many) of irresponsible owners.
She, her sister and her sister's puppies were dumped in a rural area to
fend for themselves. She is scared, but not aggressive. The warden
caught her in a live trap and brought her to the Pound 2/24. She just
seems so tired and weary that the name "Weary" seems to fit. She is
probably happy not to worry about food and a warm place to sleep
tonight. This pitiful dog weighs about 40 # and is located in pen 4.
When her sister (Sad Face) was picked up the next day, Weary has been

Sorry I wasn't able to capture a good photo of Miley, but she too is
one of 20 dogs thrown out at a lady's house in rural KY. She weighs
about 30-35 lbs. We can get her spayed if somebody will commit to
rescue or adopt her. That cost would be about $53. She isn't more than

Yesterday I spent all day along with fellow rescuer Tracy Miller in Frankfort, KY. the state's capitol ,going to see and photograph these dogs whose guardian died a few weeks ago. His family contacted me to try and help find good homes for them. They are locked in a huge court battle with a next door neighbor over the dogs, and all they want is to find them good homes. The pictures we got are of most of the dogs, 24 were on site, another 5 or 6 are at a friend's house. Some were too shy to come out of the dog houses, but most were eager for some attention. All look well fed, but none are spayed/neutered or vetted. Most are in pens, and a few are chained. The man who passed away took in any dog that showed up. The country road that these people live on had a penned or chained dog at every home. One place we counted had at least a dozen pit bulls chained up in the woods. All together we easily saw 50 chained and penned dogs just on this country road. No wonder Kentucky ranks dead last for laws protecting animals! This family also had about 15 un-fixed cats running around, and we were told 4 dogs inside the house that we weren't allowed to see. This is a desperate situation and the pictures cannot show how bad the conditions are for these poor dogs.
I don't even know where to start , so I'm starting with DDB. Please crosspost these dogs far and wide. I am also open to any advice from those of you who have had large numbers of dogs that need rescue. I am the contact person, we have age and sex info on the dogs if it is needed. Our dog's name is Roxy. She will be two years
old on August 12th. She is the German Shepherd mix in the picture. (I can't
find my camera to take a picture of her right now)She was ok around my friends dog (in the picture), but she is kennel aggressive. We have had her since she was a puppy. She has always been around children. She is very protective of our house and barks and gets upset when strangers come over. Recently I gave birth to our sixth child, and Roxy seems to think she's her puppy?? She growls at the kids when they get close to the baby. So I'm not sure about being around kids.
She is housebroken and spayed. She is due for two shots, but I can get those before someone takes her.

Louisville KY: Gray long-haired kitty needs home by Mar 22
POSTED 3/2 
We trapped a young, small gray, long-haired kitty,
taken him to snip clinic (one ear now slightly tipped) and have him in my
kitty condo. Unfortunately, he is more shy and wild than the potential
adopter thought he might be. She needs me to find another place for him
before March 22.
He is pretty "wild" in that he is quite
fearful. I don't know what his experience with human has been. He did
settle down a little with his first "captor, " and would stretch out
in the condo, clean himself, eat, etc. with her quietly sharing the room. Now,
he is in a second location with other animals (two cats and a
Shih Tzu) and a young family. (Kitty is still housed in my kitty
condo).
Is there ANY chance that you know anyone
who could keep him to get him used to people and being inside? I
think his temperament and age lend themselves to a positive outcome but it will
take some time.

Middle TN: URGENT Dog Killing Party - UPDATE
Good News UPDATE 3/3 - POSTED 3/1 PLEASE READ AND CROSS POSTALL of the small breed dogs were pulled just yesterday to be TEMPORARILY housed by a small rescue in Western TN. We will still need other rescues and foster families to step up and help these poor angels find permanent, loving forever homes. Susan Truscott of Best Friends has taken all of the BIG dogs... the ones who we were told are aggressive and bite (NONSENSE! They are just starved for food and affection! Every one of the "vicious ones" gave me kisses and let me pet them head to toe!) back to her own house to be TEMPORARILY housed until, again, our network of Rescues, friends and Cross-posters help us to find those permanent, loving forever homes!
Please understand that while the dogs are now out of immediate danger, they are by no means "out of the woods". They will need vetting, food, basic care (poop scooping, etc.) and all of that will require our continued efforts to network for these dogs - now for volunteers and donations as well as homes! As soon as I get the information for Cole's Mom's rescue (if she is a 501c3 or not) and an address where we can deliver donations, like food, blankets, cash :o), I will send it out.
We are still working on finding assistance for all the feral and friendly cats on site. Please do not forget these babies... they need us desperately.

THE PROBLEM: An elderly woman in the Carthage/Smith County area of Middle Tennessee has taken in 30 dogs over the years. She has had to move and her new neighbor is threatening to shoot the dogs. They have already killed two of her cats. NICE NEIGHBORS! The neighbor has been calling in people to come help shoot the dogs. You've heard of painting parties and barn raisings? Well, this is a dog killing party! Only one rescue has volunteered to step in and help, but one rescue simply cannot do this alone. We are willing to help pick the dogs up and transport them in this area on Saturday. We simply need places to put them. No one rescue has room for 30 dogs. Nashville Metro Animal Control first said they would take them, but have now backed out on that. If any of you know of Metro, it's certainly the last place you would want to take an animal. All these dogs have allegedly been spayed/neutered, including the 5 or so puppies. We understand that all but 3 of the dogs are very social. COME ON PEOPLE! We need HELP! Please don't sit and wait for someone else to do this. YOU ARE SOMEONE!! Time is running and this is critical.

I desperately need help for "Spot". I was out serving warrants (I'm a process server) in a not so great area of Nashville (the kind of area you just want to drive through and not stop for anything). On the way out, I spotted this approx 12 wk old puppy hiding behind a guardrail along the busy road..... he was terrified, you could tell. I jumped out in the middle of traffic and went to get him.... at first he growled at me and backed away terrified. Eventually he came to me and I was able to pick him up. My husband and I took him home with us, but he can't stay. He is the sweetest puppy....extremely submissive. But he's terrified of everything...and he was starving when I picked him up--he's gobbled up 2 bowls of food.
He's all white with a black spot by his eye... looks like a Pit Bull/Dalmatian mix to me, so he probably would be killed if picked up by Metro. I have him in a kennel at my house but its not an ideal situation. My 3 giant dogs can't be mixed with others. They are extremely territorial and protective and I believe my St. B, Debo, would hurt or maybe even kill him. So I have to keep them separate. OF COURSE, no one has identified the perpetrator and, given the abysmal record of county officials, it's unlikely Anna will ever see any justice for the crime committed against her.
Eastern Kentucky Animal Rescue (Sylvia's Sanctuary) has taken in this wonderful dog and had her leg amputated. UPDATE 3/13 - POSTED 2/24We know how many rescue pleas go out each day, but Owen County sees very little offers from rescue groups. They are very rescue-friendly and their dogs are in need. The dogs spend almost all of the day in isolated mason-block kennels with no lights on, and they have no local volunteers that will exercise the animals. The dogs get food, water, and a pat on the head. Many of these dogs sit in the shelter for MONTHS like this, waiting to be rescued. Please consider working with Owen County if you have not done so in the past. Low-cost vetting options are available.
OCFA do everything in their power to avoid euthanasia and this should be rewarded with rescue offers! Please consider rescuing from Owen Co.

We have 18 cages for cats which hold about one cat per cage and we have 16 dog runs which are about 2 feet wide and 4 feet long with a guillotine door that opens out into another 2 foot by 4 foot run that is "outside" but still on concrete. We can only hold 16 adult dogs and the biggest dogs do not fit into those 2x4 kennels. So when you look at our site and notice a few dogs, please remember that we only have room for 16 basically, and so we fill up quickly and have to make decisions based on room more so than larger shelters might.

I have had zero offers on Ringo, the emaciated pittie. This boy was found locked in a shed, too weak to stand. He weighs in at 41 pounds skin and bones, estimated to be around 2 years old. He will be GORGEOUS when he fills out. I NEED TO MOVE THIS beautiful baby asap. I can only take one trainwreck at a time, I currently have two-I had made plans to pull a pit mix with horrible, bleeding sarcoptic mange that was going to be euthanized. Plus on top of that, Ringo, making the total now THREE. I don't have the quarantine space to adequately hold this many, plus I am in BIG trouble with my boyfriend.....but I couldn't leave Ringo behind.
We did some checking into the people who had him locked in a shed- apparently Ringo was a stray that showed up on their property and was fighting with their resident, unaltered, male pit mix. This male pit mix was very protective of the property and his owner when Laura Holloway checked the residence out. She said she would not have stuck her hand out to him. Imagine what poor Ringo went through- starving to death in the cold, looking for a warm place to rest, and he got attacked by the resident pittie. ALL DOGS ON THE PROPERTY ARE VERY WELL FED.
RINGO IS NOT DOG AGGRESSIVE. He is absolutely fine with dogs when properly introduced. We tested him with our 80 pound alpha male Pittie yesterday and he was fine. He has been around three other 55+ pound dogs (two males, one female), plus a Pomeranian and done fine. He is curious with cats, at this time I would not leave him unsupervised/off leash with one.

POSTED 2/19 Wabash County Animal Shelter is a small shelter in Mount Carmel, IL. They have phenomenal volunteers that work tirelessly to get the dogs out of the shelter into homes or into rescue. They are extremely accurate with their assessments of the dogs temperaments and are very honest. Their biggest challenge is finding help for their heartworm positive dogs since a lot of rescues will not take them. Currently, they had 2 dogs treated and then had 2 more dogs come in that were heartworm positive. They desperately need donations to cover the treatment for the 2 that have started and are trying to raise money to treat the other two. The total needed for the 4 treatments is $1100. a VERY long way since he arrived!! He is not aggressive unless he is
attacked then of course he defends himself. We have had him vaccinated
and neutered. He is bursting with personality and loves his toy box at
the shelter!!!!! He is able to walk on a leash, and knows many of his
commands. He is my favorite and kinda my personal mission!! he
deserves a great home!!!

Hey all, we are looking for rescue help as everyone in the country is, we are not busting at the seams but we would like to get some of our animals out before puppy & kitten season hit. Almost 95% of the animals at the shelter have been spayed or neutered. In other words 95% of our animals are fixed and have their vaccinations, most of our dogs are large to medium sized, we have two male orange tabby kittens and two spayed Dilute calico's.

Ringo is the cutest Basset mix ever! He has huge ears that spread out
above his head! He is about 6 months old, and has the cute short legs
of a basset hound. He weighs only about 25 lbs though, so he is much
smaller than a basset. He is already neutered.

We are now getting our animals fixed the day they become available for adoption thanks to "Guardian Angel" donations (all animals) and the Pedigree Foundations grant money (dogs only) we were awarded.

I need to find a good home for our six year old yellow lab Susie. She has not been spayed and is a light colored, beautiful dog with a great disposition. She has been neglected frankly (i.e. hasn’t gotten near enough one on one attention) and needs a family who can give her focused attention and love. With our schedules and the demands of business in
