Black Labrador Retriever PictureSue UPDATE Black Labrador Retriever Medium Young Female
This beautiful girl was taken by a caring person from 2 girls that were selling her on the side of the road on a very hot day. It was suspected but not proven that they were selling her for drug money.Sue was taken to the pound and was so happy to be somewhere where people were kind to her. Then she got good news...This exceptionally sweet girl had a rescue commitment! She was taken to the vet for her spay but then was found to be HW positive. So she cannot travel for 5 weeks now. She has been spayed and will get her HW treatment next week. We need funds for her treatment and her boarding at the state of the art boarding facility where she can be cared for properly after HW treatment. There is a ChipIn in her listing. http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/17094961

Shelbyville, KY: Maria Grace & Max need your help

*****************************************************************************************************
POSTED 8/17  Please read below. The the Shelby County No Kill Mission  is doing such good work, but they need your help to keep it going. All donations go the the Shelby County No Kill Mission and used to provide vetting for the animals housed at the Shelby County Animal Shelter.

At many county run shelters, the sick or injured are considered unadoptable.  With the help of the Shelby County No Kill Mission, injured or sick animals that enter the Shelby County Animal Shelter are given the medical care they need to have a second chance.  The No Kill Mission relies on donations in order to be able to continue to provide for these animals.  These two precious beagles have entered the shelter in the last two days and their medical expenses are growing fast!   Donations are desperately needed.

Maria Grace  (named after the all time Chicago Cubs first baseman Mark Grace) was thrown out of a moving car on a busy interstate.  Another car witnessed the event and was able to stop and pull the beagle to safety.  Sadly Maria Grace has a crushed pelvis and a rear leg that cannot be saved.  She is being stabilized now and will undergo amputation to save her life.
Max was turned in to the county shelter with a painful eye condition.  Unfortunately, his eye can not be saved and he is in pain.He will need  eye removal surgery.  He deserves a chance!

No donation is too small.
Donations can be made via paypal:  www.shelbycountynokillmission.com
or checks made out to "No Kill Mission"

Morehead, KY: Patience, SWEET Yellow Lab Hit by Car, Left to Die

*****************************************************************************************************
UPDATE 9/2  PATIENCE IS READY TO BE ADOPTED/RESCUED!

Patience (also called Goldilocks) did a "happy dance" today and is trotting around the yard. She let me know she would be happy to go to a home of her own. Sweet dog, completely housebroken and weighs about 35#. She still isn't ready to roll in the grass with other dogs, but she is healing and using all 4 legs to walk. She was spayed last week too.

Patience is doing well but we still need a lot of help with her surgery bill. Thank you for caring...

DONATIONS STILL NEEDED! $1,850 needed!  Amount Raised: $870

Goldilocks/Patience got to come "home" from the orthopedic surgeon in Lexington. Although they said she still was not able to stand on her own, she surprised me by doing just that when we reached temp foster in Morehead! Everywhere she goes, people comment on what a sweet lovely dog Goldi is. From the moment the dog warden picked her up, to both staffs at vet clinics, everyone comments on her precious demeanor. Her leg was plated and I don't think anything was done with the cracked pelvis. Dr. felt it was best to let them heal as is. NOW, we just need a loving home that can give Goldilocks a happy ending. She has already been through so much and now just wants a safe place to recover.... If you can foster or would like to submit an application to adopt,
please Contact either staradoptions@yahoo.com or juliatat@yahoo.com

This is going to be tough. We still do not have the $ for Copper the gorgeous beagle that was also hit by a car.  (see next post!)

UPDATE  8/2 ~ NEWS IS NOT GOOD ~  This dog was hit by a car and left on the road. She has a broken pelvis, tibia and fibula. Although more radiographs don't show broken pelvis on other side, the vet can palpate it and Patience has not been able to stand at all. Amputation is out of question and would make it worse. Her records reflect her name as Goldilocks instead of Patience!

So surgery will be MUCH more than first anticipated. ChipIn has been raised reflect the extra need. PLEASE DONATE IF YOU CAN!  http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/17043430

Patience Yellow Labrador Retriever Large Adult Female
Yellow Labrador Retriever Picture What a beautiful and mild mannered lady she is! Bless her heart...she was hit by a car and left to die on a lonely roadway. She has a broken pelvis, tibia and fibula. We decided to amputate and she will go in for surgery on Monday. We feel this will be best as all the damage is on the same side and with amputation it will take pressure off the fractured side of the pelvis. If we opted for surgery it would require extensive plating and pinning and we would rather not put this sweet precious soul through that. We need donations to help cover the expenses and a caring rescue for her when she is able to travel. She is only 1 1/2 years old.

100+ Dogs Rescued From Casey County Breeder

*****************************************************************************************************
POSTED 8/11 ~

110 dogs plus other domestic animals were found at a breeder's property in Casey County KY.

An emergency triage unit was set up in Garrard County at Central Ky Regional Humane Society as dogs were confiscated from deplorable conditions and brought in for evaluation and care. Dead dogs were found in freezers on the property. A pregnant sharpei died, who was Heartworm positive,
and had ruptured corneas from possible heartworm complications or perhaps from being covered with the lime the owner used to try to clean up the property before officials arrived on the scene or simply because she was so abused.

Two 12 week old pups, infested with parasites, which a 50 cent dosage of wormer would have prevented, died in the arms of rescuers the first day.

Each will need vet care, some will require expensive hospitalization to treat. All will need to be vaccinated, spayed/neutered, receive HW testing and treatment if necessary.

This is the link to the Youtube Video from the temporary triage area set up in Casey County on Sunday.

Morehead, KY: STAR Needs Help ASAP! Deep in Debt - Can't Pull More Shelter Animals

*****************************************************************************************************

POSTED 8/2  STAR IS A RESCUE THAT HELPS SAVE ANIMALS AT THE ROWAN COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER IN MOREHEAD, KY. ONLY A FEW YEARS AGO THIS SHELTER WAS A HIGH KILL SHELTER WHERE ANIMALS HAD LITTLE HOPE OF BEING ADOPTED OR RESCUED. STAR HAS HELPED MAKE THIS A LOW KILL SHELTER, BUT IF THIS RESCUE CAN'T CONTINUE ITS WORK ALL THIS WILL CHANGE!  PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN!  Morehead, KY is one hour east of Lexington on I-64.  Cross-posting appreciated!

CONTACT: staradoptions@yahoo.com if you can adopt or rescue an animal at the shelter!

Plea from Julia:

Today we were hit with the bills for the past month. They are in excess of $7000. We do not have enough money to pay the all bills. We will be unable to pull any dogs from the Rowan pound or help any dogs outside the pound until we are caught up financially and move the dogs currently in boarding.

We've had 2 seriously injured beagles (see Copper on the website), too many hurt and sick dogs, too many in boarding, and a situation in Carter county with an elderly woman letting dogs breed unchecked. We spayed her dogs to stop the cycle but she would not let them go to rescue. The fuel costs alone for driving dogs to rescues and back and forth from the pound and vet and boarding have gotten totally out of hand.
The recent floods have caused people to dump dogs at a rate we have never seen.

I am sorry that I am always the bearer of bad news. It seems every time I send an email out it is another desperate situation in KY.

I also have a balance on my personal rescue account of $275 for a dog that had a broken leg. He has already been adopted and it is hard to get donations for a dog that has already been sent to safety. The adopter did pay the biggest portion of it, but I still have that balance. If anyone can help with that, you can call my vet at the Morehead Vet Clinic at 606-780-7387.  ....Julia
