Warsaw KY: Basset who had emergency leg amputation needs donations

Can you please pass this along to anyone who might be willing to help? Recycled Doggies is drowning in vet bills right now. We don't shy away from the dogs with issues, but we usually have adoptions happening at the same time to help us with our bills, and right now we just aren't having any adoptions, so we are desperate for some help.  Rufus's story will touch people's heart.  He's so sweet.

Rufus was in bad shape last weekend when Deb Miller and I met him on Sunday February 21st.  Rufus was hit by a car 4 months ago and then he ended up at the Gallatin County Shelter in Kentucky. A shelter volunteer felt bad for him and took him home with her. She named him Rufus, and he became a temporary part of her family, but unfortunately for Rufus she never got him the vet care he needed.  When Deb and I went to the volunteer's home to pick up some puppies that were coming into my rescue, Rufus came trotting out of the volunteer's house, dragging the leg backwards behind him.  The leg was swollen to about 3 times its normal size, was all floppy, and the top of his foot was "de-gloved" where he had dragged it behind him for so long, with no feeling in it, that he tore off the skin and muscle and he couldn't feel it at all.  We looked at that foot and leg, immediately got concerned about infection -- 4 months!!-- and realized he urgently needed medical attention. We took him to the emergency vet, where he got x-rays and bloodwork. The x-rays told the whole story. His pelvis was broken in at least 6 places, the femur broken in 2 places, the tibia in 1 place. And his ankle and knee were broken and fused backwards! On Monday February 22nd he had surgery to amputate the leg, as it was not able to be saved due to the passage of so much time. Rufus ended up back at the vet's office on Friday 2/26 because his incision opened up and he was bleeding all over and needed a drain inserted and to be watched closely for anemia due to the blood loss.  He seems to be on the road to recovery now, but Recycled Doggies needs help to pay his enormous vet bills.  I have attached pictures of the foot that made us know this was an emergency situation, Rufus pre-surgery (in the car on the way to the emergency clinic) and Rufus post-surgery, resting.  Rufus is currently in foster care getting some much needed R&R while he meets and greets potential adoptive families.  We have set up a Chip-in to raise money for Rufus.  http://recycleddoggies.chipin.com/rufuss-emergency-leg-amputation

Please help us.  This was an unexpected expense for us.  Deb and I just couldn't leave Rufus at that house even one more day - he needed our help.  Now Recycled Doggies needs your help to pay for Rufus's vet bill.

Thank you,

Shannon DeBra

Maggie~HELP!~ Labrador Retriever Large Adult Female ADOPTED!

Labrador Retriever Picture Ever since Maggie has been at the shelter she has continued to get skinnier. Also, she has been vomiting blood, and has diarrhea. Maggie was almost put to sleep because of her health problems simply because black labs are the hardest to get adopted in shelters even if they are healthy. However, when the staff looked in to her big brown eyes and saw her ever wagging tail, we knew that we had to make every effort to save the precious girl. That's why she is now at the vets office undergoing tests. However, we must raise the money to pay for her care. Please, we know that Maggie is worth saving! All of our vet bills are paid with donations. It's up to caring people like you to give Maggie a second chance at life. We couldn't turn away from her. Can you? Forest~HELP~ Beagle Medium Baby Male  ADOPTED!

Beagle PictureOwner Surrender/Medical Needs Approximate Age: 4 Months  This poor baby is suffering from one of the worst cases of rickets we have ever seen! When he was surrendered we immediately took him to the vet for medical evaluation. They placed splints on his legs to try and straighten them out. UPDATE" Forest was taken to the vet's office today for a check up on his splints, and unfortunately they did not work. The damage done to his legs was beyond what splints were able to fix. At this point in order to save this precious baby, he must be seen by an orthopedic specialist who would be able to break his legs and set them straight. This will be a very expensive procedure, one that is beyond the shelter's capability, funds are extremely limited at this time, and the only thing that will save Forest right now is for a rescue group or person to step forward and take this wonderful little beagle boy. If you take a moment to watch the video of him you will see how adorable he is, as well as how badly he needs help. Please, from the bottom of our hearts, help us save this puppy. Wheather it be a donation towards his care, or a simple prayer, it will be greatly appreciated. THERE IS A LINK ON FOREST'S PETFINDER PAGE TO DONATE FOR HIS ORTHOPEDIC SURGERY. PLEASE HELP US!

Nashville, TN: Great Pyr Puppy (Jackson) needs surgery to save his life

**********************************************************************************************
UPDATE 3/2 - POSTED 1/21  CHIP-IN ENDED --75% of surgery cost raised.

Jackson is a 10 week old Great Pyrenees puppy. He has had a rough start  to life as he was abandoned by his owners, but he was doing well and his foster Mom had done a wonderful job with him. This afternoon, Jackson had a dramatic turn and went from playful happy puppy to barely functioning puppy. Jackson has an intestinal blockage caused by the intestines telescoping back on themselves, blocking the intestinal tract  entirely. Jackson has vomited non stop and the vet's initial assessment of a stressed out puppy has turned out to be in error. Jackson will need surgery to fix his intestines or he will die.

We estimate the surgery
will cost $1800 - $2000. We certainly had not prepared for this and are
wiped out after several heartworm treatments and orthopedic surgeries.

We are hoping to raise the funds to be able to save his life. Help if you can here: *

http://bigfluffydogs.chipin.com/jackson-needs-surgery-to-save-his-life.

Thanks as always and say a prayer for Jackson.

KY: Tazzy Needs Help--More Animal Abuse!

****************************************************************************************************
 UPDATE 3/2

Tazzy Great Dane, German Shepherd Dog Extra Large Young Female AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION

Great Dane Picture If you have any other questions reguarding Tazzy please contact her foster parents at Steph3176@gmail.com Tazzy is currently being fostered in KY If you are interested in Tazzy please visit www.trueheartminpinrescue.org and fill out an application **A donation fee of $300-$350 applies for this dog; keep in mind donations are based solely on veterinarian care received during rescue. Note that we are a 100% non-profit organization, and all money received in donations goes DIRECTLY to the care of our rescued dogs.**

http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=15794205

Tazzy, who has been at the vets since Thanksgiving, is going to her foster home today. We had some shocking news when we were handed her bill, and we have 'upped' the chip in. We also learned that she will require further surgeries to her legs. The skin/muscle was scraped from her bones, and skin grafts were done by stretching remaining skin. The vets feel more work will need to be done to repair some muscle, and keep infection at bay. Thank you all so much for what you have given....
Tazzy is a very sweet Great Dane mix that was used for sport by her owner.  He liked to get high on drugs then hit her with his vehicle. As her latest wounds can testify, this time he probably tied her to his vehicle and dragged her. Tazzy is presently at 60 lbs and should weigh well over 100 lbs.  She has old scars and wounds that attest to the fact this wasn't the first time she'd been put through such severe abuse.  Her physical wounds are bad and vet bills will be high.  The worse wounds are under the bandages and it's amazing she can stand.  Please help by donating to her vet costs.  Tazzy is a gentle animal that wags her damaged tail whenever you speak a kind word or give a soft pat to her head.

Many of you have asked about the prosecution of the person who did this to Tazzy.  The person who brought Tazzy to us did so at great personal risk, and will not take on more risk by testifying against this monster.  The police say it would take more manpower/money then they are willing to invest BECAUSE there are no stringent laws in place with which to convict the creep, so they feel their work will mean nothing (thanks legislature).  HOWEVER it is worth their time to pursue this person for drug use/sales, so we have every faith that this sadist will be brought to some kind of justice.  Thank you all for your donations, your emails, your good wishes and your ideas about what ought to be done to the XXX who did this to her; not just this once, but other times in her young life.  The person who got her to us said that they could no longer see this dog abused - that she had been hit/chased with a vehicle more than once and suffered other abuses. Tazzy thanks you all.

There is a chip in below or you can donate at
www.urky.org from any of the donation buttons, or you can mail a check to URKY, 1708 Houndstooth Glen, Lexington, KY 40515.  Thank you and please cross post.

KY: Humane Society of Harrison County Broken into! - DOGS & CATS stolen! Devastated! - NEED MONEY and SUPPLIES ASAP!!!

***************************************************************************************************
 UPDATE 2/3

(Cross-posting!) After receiving a call from my friend in Chicago, Kim Morgan, about what happened with Harrison County I started making phone calls. Everyone has been so generous with their donations for this little shelter out in the middle of nowhere! I greatly appreciate each and everyone that has donated to help them get back on their feet. Our first load of supplies went out Monday, January 18th. These supplies were donated by the Bullitt County Animal Shelter, Kentucky Humane Society, Hope For Pets, Kentucky Lab Rescue and myself, Hilltop Haven.

Thursday, January 21st, we rented another cargo van and picked up supplies from Animal Care Society and Jefferson/Madison Animal Shelter in Madison, Indiana. These items will be picked up by Jennie McKemie from Harrison County.

Tomorrow's transport to Chicago, will include our return trip with supplies from the groups in Chicago. I will post more pictures when we get back.

I know this can not replace the lives that were stolen, but at least Harrison County is being shown the support from their surrounding shelters/rescues that we are behind you and you are in our thoughts and prayers! Thanks, Delsie.

PLEASE HELP!

*The email address is: joanlacey12@bellsouth.net  or: humanesocietyhc@bellsouth.net

The shelter was broken into over the weekend. They took several declawed cats, 2 puppies, and 5 small dogs, and all the pet food.  The assumption is that the dogs, who were almost all spoken for with rescues, and cats will be used as bait animals.

Is there anyway to raise funds for more food or something.  I'm just sick this has happened.  I'm sure the county law enforcement will do little if anything.

The building needs alarms, maybe even some fake cameras and signs saying the place is under surveillance.  Any recommendations or suggestions.

PLEASE CROSS POST!

Nashville, TN: Help save dogs from freezing to death

***************************************************************************************************

UPDATE 1/30   WE HAVE REACHED ONLY 48% of GOAL! THE CHIP-IN ENDS FEBRUARY 6th! 14 dogs are safe and sound. We are working on more. Thanks to all, and here's to a warm fluffy bed for every dog.  PLEASE HELP US SAVE MORE DOGS!

We are hoping to raise $1500 to provide funds to board dogs in danger of freezing to death in the extreme cold. The average cost of boarding a dog for one night is $18. For $18, we can save one dog from death. Our goal is to get 40 dogs into warm boarding kennels where they will safe while we work to find foster homes for these dogs. Please help as you can.

CROSS-POSTING!

Chip-in Link http://bigfluffydogs.chipin.com/polar-bear-fund

I am a Southern rescuer of big fluffy dogs who originate in the mountains and who are acclimated to colder weather than the average dog.. Given where I live, I don't see dogs frozen to death or suffering from hypothermia because it is rarely that cold. This week I am seeing something I never wanted to see. Dogs dying from the brutal cold. Meet Holly, the schnoodle:

Holly came to us at 1:30 a.m.. on Tuesday morning. She had been found lying with a yellow lab on the side of a road. When they brought her to my home, she was unresponsive and nearly comatose. Her core body temperature was 96 degrees, which is more than five degrees below normal. Imagine if your temperature was 93 degrees and you have the idea. She was so cold she wasn't shivering. She was a hair's breadth from death and she lived only because someone took the time to pick her up and get her to safety. We don't generally rescue Schnoodles (not big or fluffy), but it is everyone's responsibility to step in to help all dogs in need regardless of breed.

We have set up the Polar Bear Fund to help us afford to board dogs in danger of freezing to death. We are wiped out by several unexpected medical bills for dogs in our care and don't have the funds to board dogs. It is our goal to get as many dogs of whatever breed and history off the streets and into a warm, safe place. Freezing to death on the side of the road is never OK and donations will help us save these dogs. Please help if you can and pass along as well to those who might be interested in helping. We remind everyone to encourage their friends and family to open their homes to a foster dog. Rescues everywhere need foster homes and in a cold snap like this one, foster homes are worth far more than you can imagine.

RePets Animal Rescue, Adoption Center May Have to Close

**************************************************************************************************
POSTED 12/23

Donations appreciated for this Bowling Green,Kentucky rescue

Forced to take immediate measures, Tracy Moser, (pictured with her own two fur-babies) owner of RePets Animal Rescue and Adoption Center in Bowling Green, Kentucky is asking for any type of donation or assistance to keep RePets operating.

The slow economy, high expenses and a lease set to expire in February at her Fairview Plaza Shopping Center location has motivated her to do whatever it takes to keep her rescue and adoption center open and save the many animals there.

RePets Accepts Creatures Big and Small

Moser has helped more than 3,000 homeless, neglected and abused animals find loving homes. Dogs, cats, ferrets, rabbits, ducks, fish, mice, cockatiels, even a couple of frogs, an iguana and one Chinese water dragon, to name just a few, have all benefited from her care. At this time there are approximately 160 available pets at RePets waiting for someone to adopt them.

RePets, a nonprofit 501 (c) (3) animal welfare organization, says it accepts any animal as long as it does not require the feeding of another animal.

In addition, Moser takes animals from low-funded, rural shelters in surrounding areas that have little hope of ever being adopted, which results in higher vet expenses for RePets when she comes to the aid of a dog suffering with an untreated broken leg or a cat with an eye problem. As a rescue mission, that partly explains RePets' current outstanding vet bills of more than $6,000 for broken teeth, x-rays, medication and more.

Searching for New Location by February

"I'm searching every day for a new location, but with donations down, the economy so slow and rent so high, I feel like our best option is to buy or lease a place that's big enough for our rescue and our Thrift Store," Moser says.

The Thrift Store operates solely to benefit Moser's animal rescues with 100 percent of any Thrift Store purchase or donation going  towards the rescue and care for animals until their adoption.

Certainly, the poor economy has hit everyone, and Moser is hoping she can find a space to rent for less than what she's paying now, yet big enough to house both RePets and the Thrift Store before time runs out.

She says, "We'll take anything anyone can do!"

BOWLING GREEN, KY --- Transport Vehicle Donation Fund

***************************************************
UPDATE 12/5  Bowling Green/Warren County Humane Society We have finally realized the dream of new transport truck, but desperately need donations to help pay off the $140,000 loan. Our rescue transports have saved 3,254 animals in 2009 alone, with more transports scheduled for 2009. We are so extremely excited about 2010, we know that this number will be considerably increased by our new truck. It is a state of the art vehicle designed specifically for our needs, it has 58 cages and many features that will make the long journey more enjoyable for both the drivers and the animals.

Hello All,

Please watch this video, donate, & CROSS POST LIKE CRAZY!

Many of you know our shelter works heavily w/ rescues and if we didn't, our euthanasia rate would be 80%.  See our February #’s below, this only shows what rescue & transport MEANS to our shelter's animals.  It is literally LIFE or DEATH.

Go to our website  www.bgwchs.petfinder.com and watch the video put together by Insight Communications in Bowling Green.  THE VIDEO SPEAKS FOR ITSELF!  There is a chip-in for donations (next to the video) and at the end of the video itself are 3 other ways to donate to this cause.  Donating to this cause will save THOUSANDS of animals.  NO Donation is too small, if you can donate $5 that money will help us reach our goal.  HELP US HELP THOSE WHO CAN NOT HELP THEMSELVES.

Owenton KY: Plea for Financial Help

****************************************************
Posted MONDAY JUNE 1st

The Owen County shelter is operated by a small non-profit group called Owen County Friends of Animals Inc. The county provides the small shelter (11-runs, 2 of which are currently broken and unusable), maintenance of the facility and utilities. We provide all the labor as well as all other supplies including food, cleaning supplies etc.. The county also provides the dog warden who has no problem or qualms about picking up 25-30 dogs a month.

We have worked diligently to save 1,145 dogs since 2005 reducing Owen county's atrocious kill rate from 100% to 0%.  The county can legally euthanize after 5 days but due to our dedication to getting the dogs into foster, adoptive or rescue placements they have allowed us to run the facility as we see fit. OCFA Inc. does not view euthanasia as an option.

We incur a great deal of debt while working to place these dogs and need financial assistance. We recently had to incur the bill for a leg amputation and other major medical issues. We owe 2 vets as well as a local farm coop for supplies.

If you can help us with a donation of any amount, it would be greatly appreciated. You can mail a check to:
